WHAT IS CNC?

CNC machining is very important in modern manufacturing. But what is CNC and how does it fit into this industry? Furthermore, what are the benefits of using CNC? And why should we opt for CNC in machining? I will provide answers for these inquiries shortly.

CNC means Computerized Numerical Control. It's a computerized production system where pre-set software and code govern the motion of production gears. CNC machining handles various sophisticated machines including grinders, lathes, and turning mills, utilized to cut, shape, and make distinctive parts and models. CNC machinists use mechanical design, technical drawings, math, and programming skills to make metal and plastic parts. CNC operators make airplane and automobile parts from metal sheets.

  • CNC Turning

CNC turning is a machining process in which a stationary cutting tool removes material from a rotating workpiece made of rigid materials. This method produces different shapes and sizes based on specific turning operations.

  • CNC Milling

It is a computer-controlled process that uses a cutting tool to remove part of a workpiece. The process begins with positioning the workpiece on the machine table, while the cutting tool/s, attached to the spindle, rotate and move to shape the workpiece into the final product.

  • CNC Drilling

CNC drilling uses rotating cutting tools to create circular cavities in a fixed workpiece for aesthetic purposes or to provide additional space for screws and bolts. This machining technique prioritizes concise accuracy and efficiency for complex designs to achieve optimal results. Adherence to strict standard measurements, units, and grammatical correctness enables seamless communication among experts and stakeholders.

  • CNC machining offers 3 advantages:

①Fewer fixtures needed, even for processing complex-shaped parts.

To adjust the size and shape of parts, you simply need to modify the machining program;perfect for new product development and restyling.

②It provides consistently high machining quality, accuracy and repeatability, It can machine complex surfaces that are difficult to machine with conventional methods, and even some difficult-to-view machine parts.

③Higher production efficiency in multi-species, small-batch production can reduce preparation time, machine tool adjustment, and process inspection. By using the optimal amount of cutting, it can also reduce cutting time.
